For Ragnarok will be completed….

Nothing marks Cassandra out—except her visions. She’s only ever seen small, insignificant things. That is until the strange frost arrives.

With her normal life turned upside down, Cassandra is plunged into an extraordinary and terrifying world of Norse gods and rampaging giants, ancient feuds and broken prophecies.

A handsome stranger offers aid. But can Cassandra really trust him? More importantly, can she trust her own judgment when his slightest touch sets her heart and her body aflame?

Well, as far as mythology and fantasy goes, I am not a noob. But let me tell you, The Ragnarok Chronicles was an exquisite surprise. Although a little slow at first, as Cassandra tended to get lost in her head a lot, once the action unfolded, I was hooked. The remnants of the nine realms are fascinating to discover. The original mythology and Nicki’s own take on this fantasy world blend extremely well. And when it comes to writing an antihero, she does excel. Her Loki made me swoon so much more than the villain counterpart in the Avengers and Thor movies!

While the story unfolds, there still is a little mystery, a new threat lurking in the shadows. Sometimes, as you get the first glimpses of what’s to come or who will appear next, you just can’t tell on which side they are. What makes it harder is that everyone has so many personal quests, interests they want to see through, that telling the sides apart is sometimes as challenging. Yet, this way of plotting and planning a fantasy book is what keeps you turning page after page and you see this 700 page tome run out as the progress bar keeps going up.

Despite my initial eye rolls at Cassandra’s initial reactions, they were genuine. And as annoying as it seems to be to see someone running around in circles when they are faced with great challenges, let’s face it, we all do that. In terms of how real the characters feel, how prone to doubt and flaws, those in The Ragnarok Chronicles really come alive as you read. Absolutely a story I would recommend to fantasy lovers in general and those with a passion for Norse mythology in particular.

“I am going to enter your mind. All I want you to do is force me out.”

Well, that sounds easy enough. Cassandra took a deep breath, closed her eyes, shook out her arms, and waited. Sure enough she felt him in there. There was no way she could miss it. He had put subtlety aside and had just shoved his way in, barraging through her thoughts without a trace of his earlier finesse. She concentrated on the intrusion and pushed back against him as she had done before, willing him out. Mocking laughter filled her head; her efforts had done nothing. She frowned, pursed her lips, and tried again. Still nothing—except more laughter.

She could feel him burrowing deeper, towards memories she had locked firmly away, ones she certainly did not want him to see. In desperation, she made a third attempt. This time she nudged him back a little, enough to move him away from those dark recesses, but it was not sufficient to thrust him out completely.

“Better,” he said inside her head, “but not good enough. Do you see now what I meant? Brute force is fine if your opponent is weak, unprepared, but to dislodge me this time you will need much more. Your blood, the spark of magic within it, gives you more immunity to my influence that most mortals. However, it will not protect you entirely.”

She felt his mental caress in a shudder that ran through her body, making the hairs on her arms stand on end. His touch rippled over every inch of her skin and burnt deep within the core of her being. Her pulse quickened as the warmth pooled between her legs. Her breath hitched.

“If I wanted it you would be my puppet by now. You would not even know I was there, not if I did not wish it, and I could make you do… anything.”

He sent a wave of heat that throbbed at the juncture of her thighs, leaving her in no doubt as to his meaning. She was not sure if the shiver that followed was one of fear or excitement—she could not stop shifting from one emotion to the other. There was a healthy dose of annoyance submerged in there too, though, and in the end it was that which rose

from the depths and won out.
