Jeremy’s Story is not an easy read, although it is a sweet romance with a happy ending. It deals with important issues, from HIV status to bullying, from self-hate and drug addiction to child abuse. It is not the type of story where bullying just stops because the bullies become better. The Queen bully of the story goes out kicking and screaming and still intent on hurting others.

The story seem like a real life account, despite all the blessings Jeremy finds to compensate for his previous nightmarish existence: a boyfriend to love, great friends, allies, an amazing family, and understanding headmaster, encouraging teachers. If you list it all, it almost seems to good to be true. But that’s only until you balance it out with all the abuse, bullying, and rough times Jeremy’s gone through.

The only issue I’ve had with this story is that at times these young adults sound too mature. They say things other teens would phrase differently. Not always, but it happens. I do understand some of them are very smart and study in what would be the equivalent of Advance Placement (yes, whenever I type that, I hear Sam muttering it about Kevin in my head because Supernatural). While this is an issue, it doesn’t take away from what a beautiful read this is.

The issues in Jeremy’s Story should be faced, even if it’s hard, and not your average feel good story. Recommended for Young Adult gay romance readers!
